Jazz Collections - 1960s Jazz Hits & Myths

At the beginning of the Sixties, jazz in Britain boomed. Ball, Barber and Bilk led the charge, and international performers played to big audiences. When musical taste started to change British Jazz chose to retain constant composition by developing new forms. Jazz was LIVING music.

About the Event

The tour of Jazz Centre exhibits continues with the Sixties. Many of the big names from the Forties and Fiftiesc ontinued to hold public attention, and newcomers took their examples as the basis to explore new rhythms and more national musical styles. While popular music was symplifying via R&B into Rock 'n Roll, jazz kept its constant composition base to ensure that every concert was a completely creative live performance, rather than a repeat of previously written music. Jazz was truly a Performance, not performed work
