About the Event

Here's something very special for the Jazz Centre's final live presentation of 2022...

In 1973 composer and bass guitarist Chris Sansom left music college with a head full of ideas, mixing his classical music education with his love of progressive rock and jazz, particularly the music of Frank Zappa. He formed a large ensemble called 'Perfect Stranger', comprising accomplished musicians on the LOndon scene including our late and much lamented local hero, pianist Pete Jacobsen. The band rehearsed Sansom's complex ambitious music but the project was unwieldy for gigging musicians and fizzled out.....

Now in 2022 Chris has dusted off those arrangements, re-formed a new 'Perfect Stranger' and taken his music out in public. From this time-capsule has emerged a superb body of work that harks back to those halcyon days of British progressive jazz and the cross-fertilisation of rock, jazz and 20th Century straight music, while giving us something fresh and unheard to savour in the hands of this multi-talented group of musicians.

Read the full story on Chris' website: chrissansom.net (and look there too for a memorable reminiscence and tribute to Pete Jacobsen); then come along and bask in the brilliance and power of this band.

Perfect Stranger are:

Chris Sansom (director/bass guitar)/Shanti Jayasinha (trumpet)/Paul Taylor(trombone)/Adam Bishop (alto)/Mick Foster (tenor/baritone)/Alcyona Mick (piano)/Rob Millett(vibes)/Eddy White(guitar)/Dave Mannington (bass)/Tristan Maillot (drums)
