About the Event
Multi-instrumentalist David Black - last here with the Syd Lawrence Band for their magnificent Ellington afternoon- returns with his wife, Alice, singing alongside him in their quintet.
David, a graduate of Berklee College, Boston, plays saxophone, clarinet, flute and piano, and is a member of the Len Phillips Swing Orchestra as well as the Lawrence band. Alice studied at Sheffield University and has an MA in Music Education, and has sung in swing/jazz settings since her college days. Together they've developed a wide repertoire drawn from the jazz/swing and popular song traditions.
Their rhythm section includes the Guv'nor, John Pearce, on piano - Greg Abate's first choice pianist on his visits to the UK. He's joined by Andy Cleyndert, who had a long spell as Stan Tracey's bass man in his various line-ups, and by drummer Dave Pack.
