THE JAZZ CENTRE UK QR CODE TOUR
New Orleans Today
Around a hundred years later, New Orleans is still full of music. (images from unsplash.com).
The Spotify Playlist for this QR code explores the sounds of early New Orleans Jazz so you can close your eyes and travel back in time! We hope you enjoy our selections through the tour and whilst your there, follow our Spotify account for all the latest playlists from us!
Today in New Orleans, brass bands still parade the streets; you can visit ‘Preservation Hall’ where the music sounds much as it did in the old days (and the décor is unaltered!) or make your way down legendary Bourbon Street where the music plays all night. Visitors in search of more good music often make their way to Frenchman’s Street too, where music venues like the Spotted Cat, and the Maison host all styles of jazz and more of the City’s greatest musicians. In street markets you can listen to music, eat and drink and buy colourful souvenirs; voodoo dolls, strings of carnival beads and elegant elaborate masks. You can visit the New Orleans Jazz Museum or join the Steamboat ‘Natchez’ for a trip up the Mississippi to dine, dance and listen to the band. Many of New Orleans’ most famous musicians including Alan Toussaint (1938-2015) and the rock’n’roll legend Fats Domino (1928-2017) lived in the city for life, and our newspaper headlines Domino’s lifetime’s allegiance to the City following his death in 2017.
