A Day of Brazilian Musical Culture
Southend’s Brazilarte centre was founded in 2012 by Emma (Contra-Mestra Sininha) and Licio (Mestre Biscuim). They met in 2008 when Licio was in the UK performing at an event which Emma had organised celebrating Brazilian culture. He had been touring around Europe when he arrived in England. From their first meeting they shared the same passion for Brazilian culture, and the purpose of bringing it to as many people as possible. Licio's extensive work with social projects in his local favelas in Fortaleza and Emma's drive and organisational skills were a perfect match.
Today they will feature a full range of Brazilian culture; samba drumming, Bossa Nova, Afro-Brazilian martial art and dance capoeira and much, much more.
The day will kick off at 12pm with Jazz Centre’s volunteer and percussionist, Aidan O’Shea, presenting a talk…
