About the Event

A bit about the film being reviewed:

Sven Klang is the leader of a local jazz band from a small Swedish town whose lives are transformed with the arrival of a professional, and uncompromising, saxophonist from Stockholm. The result is superb music -all the actors are also musicians- but inevitably friction, jealousy and dissent. Reviews for the film have been positive and numerous:

“The only film about jazz musicians that tells it like it is.” George Melly

“Perhaps the best and most serious work about jazz ever presented on the screen” Jazz Journal

The August edition of Jazzwise has a full-length review by Selwyn Harris.

“It’s a film with an unusually deep awareness of jazz culture; jazz happens in jams and rehearsal, on the road, not just in the performance spaces”.

“Sven Klang’s Kvintett, exquisitely shot in documentary-like black and white, lives up to all its plaudits.”
