About the Event

The Adam Bishop Quartet came together in 2021, with the aim of performing the original arrangements of key compositions from the bebop repertoire of the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. Avoiding the compositions of Charlie Parker, they draw on the work of writers such as Bud Powell, Tadd Dameron, John Lewis, George Shearing and Dizzy Gillespie.

Adam Bishop, though born in the UK, was raised in Australia, completing a degree in jazz performance in Canberra, and refining his art in New York. He has been performing on the UK scene since 1998, releasing an album ‘Sanctuary’ in 2007. Chris May on AllAboutJazz called him ‘a gorgeously lyrical saxophonist’.

Nick Tomalin studied jazz at Leeds and the Guildhall in London, and has been a creative presence in many bands on piano; Dominic Howles plays bass and Matt Fishwick, a familiar and welcome face at the JC, takes the drum chair.
