About the Event
Tim Whitehead is one of Britain's most distinctive and creative saxophonists, lauded (by Dave Gelly) for 'his mastery of the tenor saxophone... the absolute conviction of his playing'. Touring with Nucleus and Graham Collier at the start of his career, he went on to help form several significant large ensembles, namely the brilliant Loose Tubes and the Homemade Orchestra. He has performed and recorded widely in small group formats, including a long-standing quartet with local piano legend Pete Jacobsen. He has collaborated with children's writer Michael Rosen, served as Artist in Residence at the Tate Gallery, and written orchestral scores for his daughter's dance performances, amongst many other special projects, awards and commissions.
Today Tim will perform with Jonathan Gee on piano, last heard here at the JC with Torus, and himself a hugely experienced and creative musician with a pedigree to match Tim's; Sam Hollis will play bass and Trevor Taylor will occupy the drum stool. This is a fine collection of creative talent and promises an excellent afternoon's music...
