About the Event
Ted Porter is the talented young trumpeter whose exciting development we've enjoyed locally through his appearances at the JCUK and with Jazz825. He played here with fellow students at the Purcell School, and also with the multi-generational Mandala, with whom he has not only honed his trumpet playing, but also revealed a very distinctive singing style on songs by Carla Bley and Roland Kirk. He's a local lad, and younger brother of the talented tenor saxophonist Robin Porter, who has played here with Aspyrian and Dan Banks' Lost at Sea project.
Today Ted joins us as leader for the first time, bringing his own quintet comprising fellow students from the Royal Academy: John Alcock will play saxophones, Djordje Jovanovich the piano, Zaki Osahn the bass, and Oscar Williams the drums. Expect some outstanding playing from talented young players representing the next generation of jazz...
