About the Event
Born in Miami, but raised in Birmingham, Andrea Vicari won a scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music, and emerged onto the London jazz scene as she completed her studies. Playing for a number of British band leaders in the mid nineties, such as Dill Katz, Julian Arguelles and David-Jean Baptiste among many others, she established herself as an in-demand 'sideman'. Her talents as a composer were highlighted on several CDs of all-original material, and for the Suburban Gorillas project (Ian Carr: 'the writing and playing are superbly assured').
She has gone on to compose for three stage musicals, including 2024's 'Lionesses 110%'.
When not composing or performing, she is heavily involved in jazz education, as Senior Lecturer at Trinity College, and at summer schools. Her book 'A-Rhythm-Atik' is aimed at encouraging pianists to continue developing jazz skills outside of the grade system.
