About the Event
Italian-born saxophonist and composer, Tommaso Starace makes his performance debut at The Jazz Centre UK.
Born in Milan, Starace first came to the UK in 1995 to study jazz at the Birmingham Conservatoire before undertaking post graduate studies at the Guildhall in London. Since settling more or less permanently in the UK he has become a firm favourite with British jazz audiences. He regularly leads bands in both Britain and Italy, and has performed with some of the world’s most respected jazz musicians including Paolo Fresu, Dave O'Higgins, Fabrizio Bosso, Billy Cobham, David Liebman, Kenny Wheeler, Stan Sulzmann, Paolo Pellegatti.
“Starace has a distinctive, hard-edged, tone and a style that brings together elements of the bop and post-bop greats right back to Charlie Parker. He creates an intense and exciting sound with, at times, a genuinely visceral quality.”
