About the Event
The tour of our exhibits continues with the Fifties Many great jazz names had started their careers in the late Forties & new performance opportunities were grabbed. Big US stars visited UK & Europe, spreading the flame of traditional & cool jazz styles. British jazzmen got first-hand experience, & started to experiment with new & trad rhythms & themes. Even the problems of racial segregation encouraged the growth of jazz as protest, setting a trend that continues. Was this really Jazz On A Summer's Day?
