About the Event

Our tour of the Jazz Centre's Jazz Timeline Collection continues into the Eighties. For some, the jazz world split:  Wynton Marsalis made massive efforts to remind us of the African America roots of jazz, while Albert Murray and others were ready to move on with a "melting pot music from a melting pot country".  Jazz Fusion addressed both issues and went global,  with varying success. This was the decade when many jazz enthusiasts thought that some jazz artists had gone "pop"!
