About the Event
Italian-born Betty Accorsi, saxophonist and composer, studied classical music in Milan, but moved to Britain in 2018 to pursue a jazz education at Trinity Laban and Goldsmiths. She has now released two CDs of her own compositions: 2020's Cutty Sark Suite and 2022's Growing Roots. Of the latter, All About Jazz said that it offered 'elegant, superbly crafted, sumptuously melodic jazz' from 'a young musician of outstanding talent'. The music is all original, inspired by locations in Betty's new home, Brighton (where she is part of a lively local jazz scene) and echoing some of her favourite musical influences including Pat Metheny, John Surman, Weather Report and Bjork.
Her quartet comprises Daniel Hewson on piano, Andy Hamill on bass, and drummer Joe Edwards. We are welcoming her and the quartet to the JCUK for the first time today.
