About the Event
A presentation by Aidan O'Shea, including a short film, and a percussion demonstration, along with recorded examples of the Afro-Cuban style. The programme will kick off with a 15 minute film on the birth of Afro-Cuban jazz. Aidan will then give a demonstration of Latin percussion instruments and some of the music’s rhythm styles: son, bolero, guaguanco. Attendees will be invited to try the instruments. He will play some examples of Latin covers of jazz tunes, contrasting them with jazz versions of Latin numbers. You want to learn more about the wonderful music of Cuba, walk into The Jazz Centre Media Room on Saturday June 7th, and rumba out!
Stay on after the talk and enjoy the music of Stan Getz, as performed live by the James Allsopp Quartet- which will doubtless include some prime examples of the Latin American influence on jazz... (ADM £15)
