About the Event

Our New Beginnings gigs present young bands still in, or fresh out of, the music colleges: the Chiriari quintet are a young ensemble from the Purcell School. One face will be familiar: that of Ted Porter, who has sat in at sessions here and at other local venues (and he’s the younger brother of tenor player Robin, who last graced our stage with Dan Banks’ Lost at Seaproject.)

Formed by Noah Chiari, on baritone, in October of last year, the band have played at various venues across London and the South East, performing a range of material from across the jazz spectrum, introducing some lesser-known tunes and putting a fresh twist on others that are familiar. From Jimmy McHugh and Thelonious Monk to Kurt Elling and Roy Hargrove – and some originals for good measure – the band have something for every jazz listener.

The Chiriari Quintet are:

Noah Chiari baritone sax

Ted Porter   trumpet

Djordje Jovanovic piano

Zaki Osahn bass

Freddie Garner drums
