About the Event
The Jazz Centre UK has been gifted a marvellous new portrait of the legendary George Melly. The work of artist Dave ‘Spaceman’ Miles, it will be unveiled on the 100th year anniversary of George’s birth (17th August 2026).
Dave specialised in portraits of many famous names in the entertainments industry: among them Marty Feldman, Larry Grayson, Jack Cardiff, Eric Morecombe, Dave Allen, Neil Innes, and Nicol Williamson. He is currently working on a portrait of jazz trumpeter Kenny Ball.
Digby Fairweather, author of On the Road with George Melly, will give a talk on working with George before the portrait is officially hung in The Jazz Centre Heritage Museum.
