About the Event

Digby Fairweather says: 'For me Johnny Mercer, born in Savannah Georgia in 1909, was the one and only composer to achieve the triple crown of songwriter, master-lyricist and irresistible singer. From his earliest hits like 'Lazybones' and 'I'm an old cowhand' to late masterpieces like 'Moon River' 'The Days of Wine and Roses' and 'The Summer Wind' he enchanted generations of listeners, jazz and otherwise,  and his personal story - a combination of musical triumph and personal tragedy - drew them to him too. This afternoon I'll be telling his story and Tim and I will be revisiting some of his greatest - as well as some of his lesser known - masterpieces. So join us for an afternoon in the good  company of Mr.Mercer - the Savannah-born Mark Twain of popular song'
