About the Event
The jazz organ trio with guitar is a classic small-ensemble format generally featuring a Hammond B3 organ, a drummer, and a jazz guitarist. This format rose to prominence in the USA during the 1950s and 1960s. The list of prominent organists using the trio format includes Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff, Jack McDuff, Richard ‘Groove’ Holmes, Shirley Scott and Larry Young to name just a handful. Guitarists who played and recorded with them is just as starry: Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell, George Benson and Howard Roberts for starters.
Guitarist Phil Robson keeps the tradition alive in The Jazz centre today with Ross Stanley on organ, and Gene Calderazzo on drums.
