We are excited and honoured to host a unique event for The Jazz Centre UK as we help ‘Jazzwise’ celebrate twenty five years as Britain’s best jazz magazine with the launch of their latest publication:”100 Jazz Albums that Shook The World”; an exclusive, premium quality 100-page definitive guide to the most important and influential jazz albums that have gone on to change and shape the course of the music from the 1920s to the present day.
Doors open at 11am and visitors can enjoy an exhibition of the ‘album covers and icons’ exhibition taken from this beautiful new ‘book-azine’ as they wander around our Centre. The day will also feature a film, a performance by one of the top 100 artists, and a photo exhibition.
The 100 Jazz Albums that Shook the World
11.30 AM - 2 PM
We launch ‘The Hundred Jazz Albums That Shook the World’ with an informal ‘fireside chat’ between Jazzwise editor Jon Newey and Chris Philips, a thirty-year pioneer in jazz radio and currently to be heard as an (award-winning) presenter on Jazz FM. Jon and Chris will discuss their new publication which features newly commissioned, authoritative reviews on each album from Jazzwise’s team of writers; in-depth features on the making of the top three albums, and a look at the albums that almost made the cut.
Snowboy meets Graeme Culham
2 PM - 4 PM
We are thrilled to welcome percussionist ‘Snowboy’ – longtime leader of his internationally famous ‘Latin Section’ - featured with the Graeme Culham Trio
With his Latin Section band, Snowboy is widely regarded as the premier Afro-Cuban percussionist in Europe. He has performed and recorded with many Latin and jazz greats from Flaco Jimenez, Airto Moreira, The James Taylor Quartet, Big John Patton, as well as Amy Winehouse, Simply Red and many, many more.
Graeme has performed with jazz artists such as Eddie Thompson, Pete Jacobsen, Slim Gaillard, Buddy Tate, Kenny Ball, Art Farmer, Don Rendell to name a few and the late Ronnie Scott who was quoted as saying that “Graeme was one of the best jazz drummers he has worked with.”
Expect an afternoon to remember.
