Spike's Place presents: Matt Wates Quartet

Matt Wates' distinctive alto sound, and his fine bands playing his own compositions and arrangements, have been an important presence in British jazz for some decades now, and he has built up an extensive discography. Playing in a style broadly reminiscent of the sounds of the Blue Note, Pacific Jazz and Prestige labels, and of artists such as Horace Silver and Art Blakey, Matt's compositions bring a pastoral, English quality to the style. He has a long association with the brilliant Leon Greening on piano, who appears with him today. Joining them in the quartet are Julian Bury on bass and Matt Fishwick on drums.
